Condolence & Memory Journal

Bob married Lorraine and me on August 1, 1971 at McGuire Air Force Base, N.J. Together with Roberta, there could never be a nicer couple and and better people.

Chaplain Bob - you wore the uniform and faithfully served our great country for many years in the U.S. Air Force. Then, you joined the Tan Son Nhut Association and guided us spiritually for many years. I greatly appreciate your mentorship of the Tan Son Nhut Board of Directors and your friendship. RIP Sir. We will meet again one day...

Dear Precious Bobbi,
My heart aches for you on the loss of your beloved Bob. Comforted only by the knowledge that he has gone home to a place where he will suffer with pain nevermore. Chaplain Bob was such an inspiration to me and a wonderful mentor. One of my most memorable moments was when Chap pinned one of his crosses on my suit at our TSNA Reunion and the advice he shared with me on being a Chaplain. I will miss him greatly. He was one of my hero's and forever will be. He was a good, good man and one I will always hold dear in my heart. I think he would have been pleased to know that I went on to be ordained in the Christian Church and that I am Chaplain for the VFW Post 8312 and also Chaplain at the Dayton National Cemetery carrying on with my love for the ministering to families of our veterans and fallen soldiers, Sailors, Airman and Marines. I know we will have a great reunion with him someday. May God bless you and comfort you in this difficult period in your live.
Love to you,
Chaplain Jim Smith

I have known Mr & Mrs Chaffee for many years, they are the kindest of folks.
My memories will always be of the kind words, the lovely monthly cards and the oranges in the winter. they have been a tremendous help to the Coalition for
Appalachian Ministry and for that I am also very thankful. Bob was a person that cared deeply for others. I will miss him.
