Betty Phillips Sweetland died at the age of 91 on February 11, 2017 in the Hospice Care Center in Palm Harbor after a brief illness. She was born August 4, 1925 in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania the daughter of the late Jenni Estella and Samuel Phillips. She spent most of her childhood and adult years in McMurray, Pennsylvania where she graduated from Peters Township High school in 1943. Betty attended Morris Business College in Pittsburgh and soon after acquired a job downtown with National Mortar and Supply Co. To the day she died Edith Becker, "Becky" her first boss and Betty remained friends visiting each other frequently. While working in Pittsburgh she met her sweetheart, Robert Moody Sweetland and they moved to McMurray, Pennsylvania after they married in 1945 where they would live for the next 26 years. Betty found employment at Vitte's Supply Company at Donaldson's Crossroads where she worked until they moved to Florida in 1978. She began volunteering at the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce soon after she moved and continued as an employee in Communications until she was 88 when she retired.

Her beloved husband, Robert Moody Sweetland, preceded her in death on February 13, 2008.

She leaves a brother Norman Phillips, a son Robert Sweetland and a daughter Karen Sweetland Williams.

Six Grandchildren Lisa Jenny Hochstein (Sweetland), Robert Joseph Sweetland, Christopher Lee Sweetland, Joby (Joseph) Michael Mazak, Mike (Jonathan) David Mazak, and Jeremy Mazak, and a dozen great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at "the gathering with Jesus" on March 4th at 10:00 a.m. at 39918 US Highway 19N, Tarpon Springs, Florida. Officiating will be Cynthia Stewart, Senior Pastor.

Burial will be at Center Church in McMurray, Pennsylvania on July 9th immediately after the Sunday Service. Pastor Jeffrey A. Schooley will be officiating.
