Elna Mae Hastings, 100 of Brooksville passed away September 13, 2017 at home, under the care of HPH Hospice. She was born in Bald Knob, Arkansas on May 18, 1917.
She married Raymond Ellis Hastings in Norman, Oklahoma on October 7, 1938. They traveled for 6 months with Rev. Wallace Shoot to sing and work with the youth during revival meetings.
Elna Mae and Raymond served as missionaries in the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, British Guyana, Mexico and Uruguay where they were administrators, teachers and pastors. Elna taught at Gulf Coast Bible College in Houston, Texas; now Mid-America Christian University in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Bay Ridge Christian College in Texas, and Eden Baptist Christian School in Brooksville. In 1979 they were sent by International Relief Organization, Food for the Hungry, to Bolivia, South America. They also served that organization in Peru, and Guatemala, retiring to Indiana in 1983, and relocating to Brooksville in 2000.
Elna volunteered for the Heart Literacy Program teaching English to foreign students and adults working on their GED.
She is predeceased by her husband of 76 1/2 years, Raymond Hastings; parents, Presley Cecil "P.C." Stuart and Bessie May Daniels; grandsons, Raymond Pyle and Rocky Miles.
Elna is survived by her daughter, Anita Colleen Pyle of Brooksville; sons, Walter G. Hastings and his wife, Sharon of Golden, CO., and Warren D. Hastings and his wife, Penny of Arlington, TX; grandmother of 17 grandchildren; 14 grandchildren-in-law, 37 great-grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild-in-law; 5 great-great grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law; 1 brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank HPH Hospice, staff and volunteers; Brooksville Wesleyan Church family for their care and support during her illness.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations to be made to HPH Hospice, or Brooksville Wesleyan Church Caregivers Support Group, or to Gideons for the purchase of Bibles.
