Saturday, Gary made his last flight, arriving safely home in the presence of our Heavenly Father. Born April 29, 1943 in Hoopeston, IL. He spent his early years gathering a variety of skills, including crop dusting and working on sprint race cars. He eventually found his career niche working at the telephone company as a lineman and cable splicer. He and his wife, Donna, moved from Indiana to Florida in 1977 where he thrived in the warmth and casual southern lifestyle.

From the age of 13, his passion was remote control airplanes, both flying and building. For many years he flew competetively and collected his share of trophies and awards along the way. He was so pleased that his son, Mike, and grandson, Justin, also became RC enthusiates earning their own distintive accolades in the sport. He was a former member of Bay City Flyers, and current member of Hernando Aero Modelers where he could be found almost every morning enjoying the company of his many good friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Wilber and Louise Hilderbrandt, and his sister Sheri Matthews. He's survived by Donna, his loving wife of 39 years, his son, Michael, grand daughter, Delaney, of IL, and grandson Justin (Katie) of AZ, sister, Linda (David) Barr of AZ, brother and sister-in law David and Donna Barron (Orlando) plus several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Mercy, who was always happiest being close by his side.

It was Gary's wish not to have a service so, while there will be no occasion for flowers, a suggestion for those who would like to honor his love for rescue animals may make a donation in his name to the Humane Society or SPCA.
