Gloria Valerie Mullings was born October 18th, 1939 in Halifax in the Parish of Manchester, Jamaica West Indies to Ida Bailey & Cecil Mullings. She attended Devon Elementary School and later York Castle High School in St. Ann. She migrated to England in 1960 and completed Children's Nursing at Queen Mary's Hospital in Surrey, England where she received a state certified nursing degree after a 4 year program. She stayed in West Middlesex for 2 additional years to become a mastered midwife, and then worked at the University of London as one. In January 1969, she immigrated to the US and began working at the Presbyterian Hospital In the Department of Pediatrics in the ICU where she then went on to be the Evening supervisor of the Babies Hospital. Her career path led her to Neonatal Care, high risk pediatric patients, head nurse of the Neonatal department, then charge nurse of the pediatric recovery room where she remained until her retirement in 2002, completing 45 years of nursing.
In 1965, from the friendship established between Val & Trevor's sister Jacqie, Trevor was introduced. The two started seeing each other and the rest is history. They were married in the Bronx, NY on August 9 of 1969, with her sister Sonia, cousin Marcus Mullings, and friend Sadie as part of the bridal party.
In JUNE 1973, their daughter Christine Alexia was born. The family would move from Hackensack NJ to Wyckoff in April 1975. Then, in 1991, they built a house in Spring Hill, Florida and ultimately relocated in 2002.
Gloria Valerie leaves behind Trevor Lloyd, husband of 48 years, sisters Sonia, Carlene, Maxine, Pamela, and brothers Barry and Howard. Nieces and nephews Theodore, Janine, Wayne, Yohancef, Francia, Natasha, Donna, Chantel, Paval, Dwight, Travis, and Kepha. Also, son-in-law Frank, daughter Christine, and granddaughters Tiarra, Allexia and Alyssa.
She will be remembered for her love of tropical fruits, manipulation of Rummikub, her laughter and dancing to Lou Rawls, her ability to take command of any situation, her determination, and resilience. She was firm but fair, a personification of grace, and a genuinely loving soul.
