John T. Sanders, Jr., 66, a longtime resident of South Tampa died October 6, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jo Ann; his son John, his wife Lisa and their two children, Bryan and Emma; his daughter Jackie Snider, her husband David and their two children, Lauren and Dylan; and his sister Barbara and her husband Eldon. To the people he loved most, he was known as "Papa" for the last 17 years.

John married into a much larger family – Jo Ann is one of six children. The Bozeman family quickly adopted John as one of their own. John and his sisters- and brothers-in-law spent many vacations and celebrations together throughout the last 50 years.

John attended Madison Junior High School and Robinson High School in Tampa. Though John had diverse interests, including academics and band, his greatest love (other than Jo Ann!) was tennis. He thrived on the court – he was the top tennis player at Robinson and in 1969 was the top player for boys 18 and under in the City of Tampa. Later, he coached both of his children to become top tennis players at Robinson High School.

Following his time at Robinson, John enrolled at the University of Florida. He was a devoted fan of his Florida Gators from his first day on campus. He had the privilege of introducing a love of the Gators to his children and grandchildren. Go Gators!

John Sanders was the owner and Broker at Sanders Realty and Appraisal. Through his 30 years of experience in real estate, John leaves a legacy for families who have a home because of his hard work and dedication.

John was a man of great faith. He served as a volunteer student ministry leader in various churches in Tampa beginning in 1972 and continued to point teenagers to Jesus for decades. He went from being the youngest deacon to ever be ordained at Manhattan Baptist Church to serving as the oldest volunteer in student ministry at First Baptist Church Tampa. Additionally, he loved his time as an athlete and coach on several church softball teams. His former players regard him as much more than a softball coach - he was a friend and wise mentor. Most recently, John and Jo Ann were active members of First Baptist Church Temple Terrace.

A celebration of John's life will be held at Brewer and Sons Funeral Home (3328 S. Dale Mabry Hwy) on Tuesday, October 10 at 7:00 P.M. A visitation gathering will be held at Brewer and Sons at 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the student ministry at First Baptist Church Temple Terrace (First Baptist Church Temple Terrace Student Ministry, 10002 North 56th Street, Temple Terrace, FL 33617).
