Kevin Michael O'Neil, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, March 18, 2017 after a long illness. He is predeceased by his mother, Emma O'Neil and father, Edward Joseph O'Neil. He is survived by his loving wife, Jackie Lynn, daughter, Carrie LaBarge (Andrew), sons, Kevin Barry (Lindsay) and Conor. He loved his grandchildren, Benjamin (April), Joshua, Gabriel, Colette and Brayden. He was looking forward to the newest addition to the family in September (Kevin Barry and Lindsay). He also loved his great grandchildren, Aaliyah, Mya and Isaiah. His sister, Maureen O'Connell (Jim) reside in Connecticut. Kevin has many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly and who have many wonderful memories of him. Kevin was born in the Bronx, New York on March 26, 1951. He attended St. Brendan's School, All Hallows High School and St. John's College as well as Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. He received a Medal of Honor from the NYPD. He joined the Poughkeepsie Police Department in 1976. In 1987, he was promoted to Sergeant. In 1989, he was promoted to Detective Sergeant and retired in 2001. His career was rewarding and it was his passion. He was selected as the only officer in Dutchess County to be a part of the DEA during that time. He also received a medal of honor in 1981 by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department. He was a founding member of the Ancient Hibernians in Dutchess County and a former treasurer of the PBA. Kevin was a member of the FOP Dutchess Lodge and a former member of the Police Emerald Society of Westchester. He was an avid NY Yankees baseball fan and often enjoyed going to games with his sons. When you watch your next baseball game(even you Red Sox fans) have a beer in Kevin's memory.
Kevin will be missed deeply and his legacy of love, hard work, and passion for his family will forever be in the hearts of those he loved and who loved him.
A Gathering will be held March 24, 2017 from 4 to 6 at 280 Mariner Boulevard. A Celebration of Life will beginning at 6pm at Brewer Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to: Police Emerald Society of Westchester, P. O. Box 177, Hawthorne, New York 10532.
