Lydia W. Kraus, 89, peacefully passed away on December 28, 2016 with her children by her side. She is survived by her four children and family, Roger Kraus and his wife Marsha, Carolyn Starin and her husband Gary, David Kraus and his wife Lisa, Claudia Roberts and her husband Dave. Lydia was blessed with 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great granddaughter!

Lydia was born on May 1, 1927 in Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula. She relocated to Detroit where she married the love of her life, Charles O. Kraus.

Lydia enjoyed entertaining family and friends. If she knew you were coming, she would cook up a storm. If not, she could always offer you a sandwich and a homemade cookie, straight from the freezer. Her recipes will always be family favorites.

Few things pleased Lydia more than flowers and working in her garden. On any
day, you could find her weeding and watering her plants, with sweat on her brow and a smile on her face.

Lydia used her many talents to create a beautifully decorated home as well as many handmade gifts. We hold these treasures as a constant reminder of her love and thoughtfulness.

Lydia and Charles sought adventure through travel. Whether it be camping around the United States or catching a flight to the Orient. Among her favorite vacations were those that brought her family together... creating memories of wild rides on Space Mountain to midnight buffets on a cruise ship. She always had a good time!

Lydia often spoke in phrases filled with wisdom, which instilled valuable lessons for her children. A few of our most memorable are: "Where there's a will, there's a way", "Keep a pie in the window", "Things only work, when you do", "Cut the garment according to the cloth", and "Straighten up and fly right!"

Procession meeting on January 9, 2017 at 9:45am at 280 Mariner Boulevard to proceed to Florida National Cemetery for a 11am service.
