To our Mom:

Mary was born in the Bronx, New York, on May 29, 1923. Mary was the middle child and had four siblings, Anna and Johnnie were the oldest and Katy and Pat were the youngest. Mary lived through the Great Depression which always left an indelible mark on her and was probably the primary reason for her love of Dollar Stores!! However, while Mary found it hard to spend on herself, her generosity with others knew no boundaries. Besides her husband Dan, Mary's greatest loves were her two children, Dan and Maryann. But back to where it all started --- Mary met Dan at the funeral of his father. At that time Dan's sister, Kay was dating Mary's brother, Johnnie. Dan proposed to Mary on Valentine's Day and the two later married on November 30, 1946. As a young married couple, Dan and Mary continued living in the Bronx along with Mary's sisters, Katy and her husband Joe, Patty and her husband "Red". Mary worked at the New York Telephone Company as a customer service operator for 14 years. During those years, Mary longed to be a mother and on May 25, 1954, Mary and Dan were blessed with their first bundle of joy, a baby boy they named Daniel. By that time Dan and Mary had entrenched themselves in Little Neck, New York where they remained for over 30 years. Mary became a stay at home mom raising an ever precocious and "high energy" baby boy. However that did not discourage them and on September 24, 1962, Mary and Dan welcomed their second bundle of joy, a more "sedate" baby girl they named Maryann. In 1989, Mary and Dan moved to Spring Hill, Florida, where her sister Katy and family were established. This was a time of rejuvenation for Mary and Dan as they traveled the world cruising the Nile, the Danube, the Shanghai River, the South Pacific, the Panama Canal and the ever present Caribbean. Their travels took them throughout most of Europe and Asia, counting Ireland, England, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Greece, Turkey, China and Egypt among their many trips. When they were at home in the United States, they enjoyed traveling locally to all ends of Florida, up and down the east coast of the U.S, Nevada, California, but most importantly, Washington where their son now resided with his wife, Geri, and to Arizona where their daughter Maryann had settled. When home in Spring Hill, Mary loved entertaining family and friends. As a couple, Mary and Dan loved to dance and could be found at the Elk's Club every Friday night. Mary and Dan could clear a dance floor as others stood back to admire their grace and finesse. Dan and Maryann often referred to their parents as the Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire of the family. Mary loved music and loved to sing out loud while she was at home. Mary loved a good game of bridge and also belonged to a bunco group. She was a firecracker and seemed to have boundless energy. Mary volunteered at Oak Hill Hospital and was a Eucharistic minister at St. Theresa's Church. Mary enjoyed a well made martini with a nice dinner at a fine restaurant. One of Mary's many joys was spending time with her extended family - her two nieces and their families. Mary touched every person that had the pleasure of knowing her and she will be missed by many. We, her family, will certainly miss her.
Funeral Mass will be held at St Theresa Catholic Church on February 23rd at 9:30am. Burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery.
