DOWNEY, Matthew John
57, of South Tampa, passed away September 16, 2017. He was born in Queens, NY and came here 9 years ago from Cornwall, NY. Matt is survived by; mother, Marilyn; father, Matthew; wife, Susan; daughters, Kaitlyn, Joanna, & Shannon; dog, rosie; sister, Lynn Seijo; nephews, Benjamin & David; niece, Julianna; and a loving family.

Matt attended the University of Maine where he played cornerback. He retired from Local 1 Elevator Operators Union and was currently the president of the HOA of the Westshore Yacht Club.

Matt was married for 30 years, and was an amazingly supportive father of three. He was a jack of all trades, and quickly became the neighborhood handyman. He was a lover of sports, especially football. Matt enjoyed many outdoor hobbies including boating, fishing, golfing, and biking with his wife every Sunday.

He had an exuberant spirit, magnetic personality, and an infectious laugh. Matt was constantly surrounded by many warm friends. He was and will always be adored by many.

His wife and daughters will continue to emulate the best parts of Matt; he will forever live on in their hearts.
