Richard "Dick" Anthony Barrett, 81, of Tampa, FL. passed away peacefully October 3rd at home surrounded by his loving family.
Richard was born in Philadelphia, PA. to Richard and Margaret Barrett. Joining the Air Force as a teenager, he proudly served his Country with honor in Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand and USA; retiring after 20 years. In 1959 while stationed in San Antonio, TX. he met and married the love of his life, the former Lucia Selby. He was a graduate of The University of Tampa and The University of South Florida. After brief stints in the insurance and accounting professions, Richard finished his career as a middle school teacher in Hillsborough County. For many years after retirement he delivered meals for St. Vincent de Paul and prepared taxes for Active Duty, Military Veterans, their families and friends. Richard Barrett is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lucia Barrett, son Rick (Jana) Barrett, daughter Kathi (Ed) Todd, son Jack (Kristen) Barrett, brother Jim Barrett and eight grandchildren (Jenny, Stephen, Stephanie (Chris), RB, Meg, Max and Grace). Richard was a devoted husband, a loving father and an adoring grandfather. His greatest joy was spending time with his family who loved him so very much.
A funeral Mass will be held at 12:30pm Monday, October 9th at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lifepath Hospice of Hillsborough County.
