Rose Marie Dzurenda, 88, of Spring Hill, Florida, passed away June 16, 2017 in Boston, MA. She was born on September 15, 1928 in Yonkers, New York, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Kollar) Hvisc. She attended St. Cyril Academy in Danville, PA. Rose Marie was married to the late Frank Dzurenda for 57 years. She is survived by her 2 daughters: Kathleen Segal and her husband Allan of Enfield, CT., and Karen Rocco and her husband Thomas of Boston, MA; 2 sons: Kenneth and his wife Jane of Vernon, CT., and John and his fiancé Denise, of East Hanover and Montville, NJ; grandchildren: Jennifer, Rachel, and Allison Segal, and Michelle Botelho; Carmen, Julian, and Alyse Rocco; Sean and Katie Dzurenda; great grandchildren: Logan Segal and Rafael and Cristiano Botelho; loving nieces: Audrey Sexton, Aileen Dellacato, and Joanne Harris of Spring Hill; nephews Al Hvisc of Hudson, Ed Morrison of NY, and Ronnie Morrison of NC; and sisters-in-law: Verna Hvisc of Spring Hill, Agnes Hvisc of NY, and Lorraine Dzurenda of Trumbull, CT.
Rose Marie lived in Windsor, Ct for 47 years, where she and her husband raised their 4 children. She worked for a local newspaper, then as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Mountain View Healthcare in Windsor for many years. She was active in the Women's Guild of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Poquonock, CT.
In 2004 they moved to Spring Hill Florida, where she enjoyed being closer to her brother and extended family. Rose Marie became involved in the Women's Guild in St. Mary Our Lady of Sorrow's Church in Masaryktown, and she made many treasured friends in the Wellington Red Hat group in her neighborhood. She was also blessed with incredibly warm and wonderful neighbors and friends, with whom she loved to go to shows and celebrate special occasions. These same friends kept a watchful eye on her when her body became weaker.
To family, Rose Marie was well known for her exceptional baking skills and for carrying on scrumptious culinary family traditions. She thoroughly enjoyed traveling and relaxing on sandy beaches from Hawaii to Florida. She had a special affection for UCONN and New England Sports. She was an avid reader, and was always up on the latest in local and national news, even into her last weeks of life. She was a completely selfless person, and her kindness, warmth and compassion were immeasurable.
Visitation will be held Friday June 30th from 4 pm to 8 pm at Brewers Funeral Home, 280 Mariner Boulevard, Spring Hill, FL. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday July 1, 11:00 am at St. Mary Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 18810 US Highway 41, Masaryktown, FL. Burial will occur in Yonkers, NY on a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to St Mary Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
