Susan R. Wall, of Brooksville, Florida, passed into Heaven on February 15, 2017, while under Hospice Care, after battling multiple health issues stemming from a heart attack and stroke in 2006. Her two daughters were right by her side during her time of passing. She lived her life with great integrity, love and compassion. She will be deeply missed, forever cherished and fondly remembered.
Susan May (Russell) Wall, was born on May 22, 1943, at Camp White, in Medford, Oregon. She spent her early childhood in Nevada, Iowa, where her mother's family resided. In 1950, she moved to Brooksville, Florida, where she spent the rest of her childhood years. During high school, Susan was chosen to attend Girls' State and during her senior year she served as editor of the Leopard's Paw yearbook. She graduated from Hernando High School in 1961. From there, Susan attended the University of South Florida for two years; and then decided to transfer to Florida State University where she graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor's Degree in Science. She then worked for the Florida Extension Service (4-H Program) before pursuing her Master's Degree at the University of Tennessee (Knoxville). Susan obtained her Master's Degree in Home Economics (Textiles) in 1966. It was during her time in Tennessee that she met her future husband. In 1970, she married Tom Wall, and they eventually settled in Jefferson City, TN., where they raised their two daughters, Christy and Catherine. After divorcing in 1988, Susan and her girls moved back to Brooksville.
In Tennessee her job's included: working for the Girl's Club of Knoxville, mentoring young girls; working with The East Tennessee Douglas Cherokee Community Action Agency, where she specialized in writing grants for the program; and serving as a high school homebound teacher. After returning to her hometown of Brooksville, Susan worked for The Junior Achievement Program of Hernando County. Later she became a teacher at Hernando High School, where she briefly taught Home-Economics, and proudly taught in the Teen Parenting Program for many years, mentoring and teaching many young girls, until her heart attack and stroke occurred in 2006, when she was sadly forced to retire.
Susan was a loving daughter, faithful wife, loyal friend to many, and an extremely devoted Mom. She was a Methodist by faith and volunteered during many Summers as the Coordinator for the First United Methodist Church of Jefferson City's Bible School Program. She was also actively involved in the PTA, and was a very active homeroom Mom in Tennessee. Socially, Susan enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, was an avid reader, and also a very skillful and talented seamstress. However, her main joy in life was spending time with her family and friends, most especially with her Mom and two daughters "her girls".
Susan was preceded in death by her father, Wallace Russell; her mother, Edna Russell Underwood; her stepfather, Raymond W. Underwood; and her step-brother, Alan Underwood. She is survived by her daughters, Christina (Christy) Wall; Mary Catherine (Cathy) Roberts and her husband Christopher Roberts; grandsons, Christian Thomas Roberts and Rexland Anderson Roberts; and her step-brother Raymond J. Underwood, all of Brooksville, Florida.
