Thomas Leon "Benny" Benfield, 89 of Clermont, Florida passed away January 22, 2017 at South Lake Hospital in Clermont. Benny was born on December 19, 1927 in Mobile, Alabama during the Great Depression when times were hard. His parents were forced to give him up, and he grew up in CC DOF AL-Mobile, a Catholic orphanage for boys. When Benny became of adult age he made the decision to join the Air Force. He enlisted in September 1948, and served throughout the Korean War.

Benny met his lovely wife Barbara Sue "Bobbi" Underwood, and they married in August 1952. In December 1953 their daughter Melodie was born and they started their family. In the 1960's they moved to Lake County, Florida and made Clermont/Minneola their home for the rest of their days. Here they started a well-known family business, Jack Benny's BBQ, on Highway 27 in Minneola, and Benny also worked with the Minneola Police Department as both an Auxiliary Officer and Investigator. They loved running the business together, and did so for over 45 years. It remains a local favorite to this day. Later, he also sold real estate in Lake County along with his daughter, Melodie. Benny and Bobbi employed and fed most of Lake County during those years, and many, many young people held their first job at Jack Benny's. The inside of the restaurant was decorated in anything and everything Florida Gators, and Benny was a huge fan for his entire life.

Benny was kind, generous and always a gentleman. He had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor, even in the most trying of times, including the loss of his daughter Melodie in 2011 and Bobbi's passing in 2013. Benny was a wonderful role model for both his employees and his friends. He was loved by many, and his family, friends and community with carry his memory with them forever.

Benny is predeceased by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Melodie Brogdon; nephew Richard Nellis, Jr. and little Ricky, his great-grandson. He is survived by his granddaughter Brandi Willet and her husband, Robert, son-in-law, Ben Brogdon; daughter-in-law Mary Huff; grandson Matthew (Arica Bedford) Huff; granddaughter, Tabbitha Snider and her husband, Michael; great-grandchildren Eli, Evalis, Noam, Landon and Bailey; sister-in-laws Wanda (Richard) Ellis and Norma; Nephew Brit; nieces Renee, Stephanie and Myra and many other extended family and friends.
