Velita "Ann" Simmes, 71, Clermont, FL unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018 surrounded by family. She was born in the winter of 1946 to the late (respectfully) Robert and Stella Medlin in Sanford, NC. Early in life; Ann worked as a typesetter for a local cable magazine and in later years held a position as an Activities Coordinator at Florida Manor Nursing Center (Orlando) in their Alzheimer's Unit. In recent years, she was a home-maker, and a long-time member of the Red Hats Society. She will be remembered by many as a thoughtful friend who never forgot a special occasion or birthday with a card, a phone call or a visit. Her main interests in life centralized around her children & grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. She was very involved in each of their lives, took great pride in their accomplishments, and rarely missed an important event or celebration. Her kind, loving and giving spirit will live on through each of them.

She was preceded in death by her son Gregory Schreier. Survivors include her loving husband of thirty-eight years James Simmes of Clermont, FL; daughters, Molly Schreier-Lowie (Bruce) of Sanford, FL, Amy Chapman of Tavares, FL; son, Jason Simmes (Melissa) of Oakland, FL; five grandsons, Zachary, Alexander, Casey, Jackson & Reid; two grand-daughters, Shelby & Ashton; one great grand-daughter, Harper; sister, Cathy Cribbs, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and three nieces, Vickie Epperson (Steve), Auburndale, FL, Lindyle Cox, Clinton, MO, and Charm Skoularicos (Chris), Montreal, Canada.

A "Celebration of Life" in her honor is scheduled to be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 (time and venue to be determined.) For updated information, please check back periodically or look for a Facebook announcement. Thank you.

In lieu of flowers; friends & family are encouraged to make memorial contributions in her name to the "American Lung Association" or a favorite charity of choice.
