Virginia Ellis Ashby, died February 4, 2017 at age 95. She was born in Macon, GA, July 4, 1921. She is a graduate of Plant High School and attended the University of Tampa. She was predeceased by her parents, J. Edward Sr. and Virginia Gray Ellis, Brother, J. Ed Ellis Jr. and his wife, Peggy, sister, Jean Ellis Clark and her husband, Jack. She is survived by her loving husband, Rufus of Tampa, daughter, Jean Gray Barrett and her husband, Walter of Poulsbo, Washington, son Rufus Nicholson Ashby and his wife Terie, three grandchildren, Austin, Alexandra and Kelly Ashby all of Valrico, FL, brother, W. Gray Ellis and his wife, Jo of Tampa.
Virginia lived with her family in Jacksonville for around 36 years. She enjoyed being very active with Women's Clubs in Jacksonville, belonging to two clubs of which she served three different terms as president of one and served many years on the board of both. She also served on the Board of the Women's Aux. of the Riverside United Methodist Church and the Ortega United Methodist Church. She studied for six years with the Bible Study of Jacksonville. After returning to Tampa, she joined the Salvation Army Aux. and she has been a member of Community Bible Study for years. From childhood, she has been a member of the Hyde Park United Methodist Church, when she was living in Tampa and she rejoined this church since returning to Tampa. She moved into the Canterbury Tower in 2008 and enjoyed the Ballroom Dancing and Bingo.
