Walter Milton Bassick, 85, passed away March 17, 2018 in Spring Hill, Florida. He was born on December 1, 1932 in Rockland, Maine. Walter entered the United States Air Force in 1951 and served for 21 years. During his military service he was a heavy equipment operator and served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. He met the love of his life, Yvonne, in Strasbourg, France and on July 4, 1957 they were married. Walter and Yvonne retired to Maine in 1972 where they raised their family. He was a devoted and loving father. He traveled around the states in a motorhome with his family and friends. Walter was a very gentle man that everyone loved. He was always willing to help others. In addition to his parents, Walter and Faustina, he was predeceased in death by his first born son Joseph in 1958 and his beloved grandson, Gregory Bixby in 2015. Walter is survived by his wife of 60 beautiful years, Yvonne; son Paul and his wife, Mary; daughter, Christine Bixby and her husband, Leroy; 4 grandchildren, Jessica Burns and her husband Caleb, Michael Bassick and his wife, Laura, Rebecca Bassick, and Connie Bixby-Ward and her husband, Mike; 5 great grandchildren, Gage, Starsha, Jack, Sam and Abigail. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. A gathering will be held March 22 from 4:00 to 6:00 at 280 Mariner Boulevard. A Memorial service will be held in Rockland, ME at a later date.
